Plot

Benedict Cumberbatch plays Stephen Strange, a brilliant neurosurgeon with an egotistical personality who loses the ability to use his hands due to a car crash, which terminates his career as a surgeon. In a bid to cure himself, Strange discovers other methods to do so, and eventually, he discovers Kamar-Taj, an underground refuge where he studies the art of the mystics under The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton).

As Strange enhances his magic skills, he gets to know that there are threats to reality, especially Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen), a former student of the Ancient One who aims to release the evil being Dormammu out of Dark Dimension. Trained by Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and with the help of Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), Strange gets to know how to use his abilities, accepting his new role as a Sorcerer Supreme and protecting the Earth against the magical threats.

Performance

Benedict Cumberbatch performs the role of arrogant surgeon turned into humble sorcerer with charisma and excellence, which makes the journey of Strange interesting.

Tilda Swinton delivers a very mystical and relaxed gravitas to the Ancient One providing wisdom and mystery.

Chiwetel Ejiofor strikes the right balance between mentorship and moral responsibility as Mordo, which offers emotional stakes.

Mads Mikkelsen is a subtle villain, who combines philosophical belief and threat.

Emotional authenticity is the foundation of the story provided by Rachel McAdams and it shows that Strange is a human being with weak sides.

The ensemble cast adds an uplift to the story adding spectacle and depth to the character.
